COVID 19 Vaccine Location & Information


If you have mobility issues and are being taken for your vaccine by a friend, relative or even driving yourself you MUST go to our SAXON HALL venue which has lots of parking and facilities for the frail elderly, wheelchair users etc.

The Belle Vue Baptist Church has no parking outside so drop off and pick up for patients in the large number that will be vaccinated on the day is impossible, especially given the 15 minutes of supervision required after the vaccine.

Belle Vue is suitable for patients who can walk there or access via public transport.

Even if Belle Vue is closer getting your vaccine at Saxon Hall will be a much better experience for frail elderly patients and probably be quicker.

When we did the first vaccine for the over 80's at Belle Vue we came within a whisker of being closed down by the police due to the traffic congestion the clinics were causing. If that happens we will waste the vaccines and we don't know when we are getting more of the Pfizer vaccines after this delivery.



Saxon Hall, Aviation Way, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 6UN

This is a big facility with a large car park which is suitable for vaccinating patients in large numbers. Patients with their own transport, or transport from family or friends, you will be directed to this venue. Please note that it does not have good public transport links.

Belle Vue Baptist Church, Belle Vue Avenue, Southend-On-Sea, SS1 2QZ

This is on the corner of Southchurch Road and Belle Vue Avenue. For those of you familiar with the area it is next to the Tesco Garage.

This facility will be best if you don't have your own transport and it has great public transport links. It has virtually no parking facilities but there is free station parking at the southern end of Belle Vue Avenue about 150 yards from the church so drop off and pick up is possible. If you live within easy walking distance of Belle Vue Baptist Church you may also ask have your vaccine there.

Please note that there have been occasions at early vaccine sites where delivery has been late. We will do our best to mitigate for this but please understand that this is out of our control.

COVID Vaccination Program

 The way that the vaccine program is being organised is that groups of surgeries are working together (otherwise known as Primary Care Networks or PCN’s)  in order to  deliver the required 975 vaccines over a 3.5 day period. Some of the PCN’s have been selected as test sites to test the system out for flaws and it is these sites where patients are starting to get vaccines. The vast majority of surgeries or PCN’s will be starting there vaccine programs in the new year. To vaccinate all over 80’s in the entire Southend area would require a mass vaccination site and not a GP Surgery network. However the complex rules about transporting and storing the vaccine, which has been heavily featured in the news, does not help with the delivery of the program. I understand that the local pilot sites are Leigh and Rochford so the patients that have already been vaccinated are probably patients of practices in that area. I understand that the Westcliff group of practices also started at the weekend.   

 Under normal circumstances I am sure that Queensway, and the group of practices we will be working with, would have put themselves forward as a test site but since we are operating out of Portakabins and small venues since the fire  it has not been possible to deliver the service whilst maintaining appropriate social distancing.

 Plans for our own vaccinations are on course and we have identified two venues, one large venue with lots of parking where the majority of the vaccines will be performed, and another local venue for those who do not have their own transport.

The local Clinical Commissioning Group  confirmed  that they are issuing press releases and social media to keep patients informed of the vaccination program so it may be worth keeping an eye on that.

 In the meantime I am happy to try and answer questions. Queensway (and its partner practices) will be working flat out to make sure we get the vaccine to our patients at the earliest opportunity.

Proof of Vaccination for Travel

From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from: 

  • the NHS App which you can download from app stores 

  • the NHS website 

  • 119 - by requesting a paper letter

You will need to register to use the online services, if you have not already. It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified.

If you cannot access the online services, and you have had both doses of the vaccine, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you are due to travel outside the UK in the near future and have had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take up to 7 working days for the letter to arrive.

This practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status. Please do not contact the practice about your COVID-19 vaccination status unless you have been advised to by the 119 service.

When you're planning your travel, you should check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the website. Make sure there is enough time to get proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status before you are due to travel.
